Gender Trouble

WGS 100W
Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
Emory University
Fall 2020

Welcome to WGS 100w

This course will introduce students to the interdisciplinary field of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. We will discuss the concepts of sex, gender, and power, and how they intersect with issues of race, class, sexuality, and more.  Drawing from feminist and queer scholarship, we will examine some historical perspectives on sex and gender and link these to contemporary discussions regarding race, activism, and social justice.

Course Goals

This course will encourage you to:

  • question and transform your ideas of gender
  • integrate feminist, queer, and intersectional analyses to your everyday lives
  • formulate an informed stance on current gender and social justice-related debates
